Item Description

Classic gemmy and lustrous, delicate gray-blue tabular barite blades are densely and aesthetically clustered next to a field of calcite scalenohedrons with flattened terminations on the hematite matrix. This is a very showy 360-degree miniature from this famous old Cumbria iron mine, that operated from 1874 to 1914. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 85! and acquired in the 1950s or earlier. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The Pallaflat Mine was renowned for exceptional calcite specimens and this is a classic fine old-time combination.
