Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY type are VERY RARE from this obscure Dona Ana County locale. Mineralization is in veins in a brecciated rhyolite sill of Tertiary age, intruded along the bedding contact of limestone and shale (MINDAT). This is a striking and rare large specimen of dramatically intergrown, jackstraw-style clusters of parallel-growth barite blades and individual barite crystals. The lustrous and translucent textbook spearpoints reach a large 9.3 cm in the prominent large cluster. The iron oxide tinting on some of the crystals adds real color and contrast. This is an impressive, large and RARE 360-degree piece from this locale. Complete all-around and in great shape. The interior is pristine and the modest periphery wear is confined mostly to one end.
