Item Description

Extremely rare native iron is found in igneous rocks, even though it forms the majority of the Earth's core. This old-time specimen is from the Type Locality, remote Disko Island, Greenland and is a nodule of bright, metallic, rust-brown native iron with oxidized lighter brown areas. The native iron formed as nodules in basalt. This specimen probably dates to the late 1800s, but no proof. Ex David Burgess Collection. 53 grams mass. This is an amazing old-time example for the material, complete and not sliced for analysis and study as so many were.
