Item Description

Showy 360-degree miniature combination material from the well-known pegmatites of the Krizanov area of the Czech Republic. A 1.7 cm, lustrous, well-striated, terminated, jet-black schorl is aesthetically surrounded by lustrous, translucent, terminated smoky quartz crystals. Embedded feldspars and muscovite plates on the smokies are a nice accent. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 10847 and acquired at the Munich Show in October, 1985. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The pegmatites were mined for feldspar, with mining closed since the early 1970s. Dumps are recultivated and replanted with conifers. Trespassing in the mining area is prohibited, however, the place is not guarded (MINDAT).
