Item Description

An impresssive large old-time aquamarine from Minas Gerais, possibly from famed Virgem da Lapa. The pretty greenish-blue crystal has textbook hexagonal form and razor sharp edges. The lustrous prism faces of the gemmy to translucent crystal are frosted, while the termination face is super-glassy and water-clear. Complete all-around and in great shape, for an old-timer. A modest bit of termination bruising and a contact on one side, where another crystal once lay, but with no damage are noted and certainly have minimal impact to the excellent quality of this aqua. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7500 and acquired in the mid-1970s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 291 grams mass. A classic large old-time Brazilian aquamarine. Valued at $1500-1750.
