Item Description

An impressive, aesthetic and RARE large combination from Sentinel rock - an area known for fine quartz specimens since the 1880s (MINDAT). Specimens are SELDOM on the market. The sculptural triangular microcline crystal matrix hosts two pristine, well-placed, dramatic, sharply terminated, moderately lustrous, translucent smoky quartz crystals with frosted faces. The dominant large smoky is 5.3 cm tall. The other corners hosts corroded pseudomorphs of goethite/hematite after sharp siderite rhombs, to 3.0 cm on the diagonal. Smaller siderite pseudos on both the large smokies and the matrix plus more scattered small smokies add even more character. A further bonus on this two-sided rib, is that the bottom is festooned with small quartz points. This is an exceptional and RARE large combination pseudomorph example from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection and this locale. A MUST for the Colorado or species collector and has multiple fine display views. Valued at $1000-1250 for size, combination richness, quality and rarity
