Item Description

This large underground copper mine has produced outstanding specimens of chalcophyllite, an uncommon Cu-arsenate, comparable from those of the famous old mines of Cornwall or France or Nevada. Lustrous, teal-blue plates are richly and aesthetically clustered on the vuggy matrix plate and complimented with nubby spherical clusters of malachite and a bit of azurite. One side and the back of the plate have been sawed to remove mass and thus enhance the considerable frontal display quality of this fine, rich and showy combination. Such high quality older specimens are very seldom on the market. Valued at $1000. Honetly though, if it were English, it would be valued double or triple that. It is hard to say what a similarly fine example of this species from a much more rare locale, could be worth. These reportedly came out in the late 1800s and early 1900s
