Item Description

The Dzhezkazgan Mine is known for its impressive sulfides, including species like Betekhtinite, Chalcocite and Bornite. Some of the best examples of Bornite found in the last few decades came out of this contemporary classic locale. This piece was mined in the mid 1990s, and features pseudo-dodecahedral (thery're actually orthorhombic) crystals of grey Bornite measuring up to 7 mm across with white Calcite. The Quality is excellent, and I can't see any real damage with the naked eye. Ex Kay Robertson Collection #11595. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive display piece from this famous locale.
