Item Description

Densely intergrown, glassy, translucent, tan witherite crystals form a rich and and showy mounded specimen from a classic England locality - the Settlingstones Mine, Northumberland. The interior is pristine on this hefty ore specimen. Originally worked as a lead mine, it became the largest British producer of witherite (Ba-carbonate) in the late 1800s - early 1900s. This an an excellent and rich example of the species and locality. Historic, old-time material, probably around 100 years old or older. White fluorescence.
