Item Description

A sculptural elongated pyrite nodule from this less well-known South Dakota locale. Spiky complex parallel-growth, two-toned pyrite octahedrons completely cover this interesting piece. Most of the matte-finish crystals have a bronzy tone, while others, mostly on one side, have a preferential secondary iron oxide coating, adding color and character. Complete all-around. Part of one side has a contact/attachment, that is mostly out-of-sight. Uncommon and showy pyrite from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
