Item Description

Texas is well-known as a mineral specimen wasteland, except for a few localities. One of them is this Cretaceous limestone cement quarry southwest of Dallas. The quarry is known for authigenic pyrite nodules and marine fossils. This is a pristine, excellent and sculptural large floater example. Densely intergrown, moderately lustrous to lustrous, bronzy to brassy cuboctahedrons form an impresssive specimen. Striking highlights are the large 5.2 cm compound crystal at one end and the hole through the piece. This is one of the finest large examples you will see from the locale. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
