Item Description

This piece came to us with a hand-written label stating that it was from the Yogo Mine in Montana. I don't know specifically it was found directly at the Yogo Sapphire Mine, or someplace nearby. Calcite has been reported from Yogo Gulch, so it stands to reason that Aragonite could be found there as well. It honestly looks similar to Aragonites found in caves, but it's hard to say. It is nonetheless an odd piece, that would make a great add to any US mineral collection or a suite of carbonates. Dozens of spherical / botryoidal groups of tan-cream colored Aragonite have formed almost organic looking growths - similar to a species of coral - on matrix. Very little damage on the main growths. Very interesting, eye-catching and unique compared to anything I've seen from anywhere in Montana. Valued at $800 for the size, obscurity and uniqueness of the specimen.
