Item Description

A rare, rich and showy combination miniature from this less well-known San Juan Mountains locale. Rhdochrosite is known from here, but specimens are seldom available. Vibrant pink rhodo rhombs cover most of the sculptural plate and are nicely accented with tiny quartz points, golden chalcopyrite and lightly iridescent contrasting black, either sphalerite or bornite crystals. Another label lists bornite, the specimen was collected in the early 1990s, but that species is not listed by MINDAT for the locale. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X28-4 and illustrated in Bill's 2013 self-published book, Rhodchrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance, on Page 76 with an extensive paragraph.
