Item Description

A super deal of 5 old-time rarites from the ancient mines Hakansboda. The suite consists of three cobaltite and two glaucodot specimens. The large piece has a sharp, lustrous, metallic, orthorhombic 1.5 cm glaucodot crystal in the chalcopyrite-rich ore matrix. The partial crystal on the left is damaged but a very large 3.7 cm glaucodot crystal. The other three smaller pieces host sharp, metallic orthorhombic pseudopyritohedral cobaltite crystals, to 1.0 cm, in chalcopyrite-rich ore. Copper mining started here in the early 1400s and switched to cobalt later. The main mining period was from 1702 until 1873, with minor mining during World War I (MINDAT). A major and important suite of glaucodot and cobaltites specimens from an old family collection in Europe. Valued $900-1200
