Item Description

Lustrous, black bubbly heterogenite botryoids cover much of the front and part of the back of the sculptural two-sided wedge on this rich specimen from the famous Star of the Congo Mine in Katanga. Heterogenite is an uncommon cobalt oxy-hydroxide, with some of the finest and richest examples coming from this well-known locale. Rich patches of glassy teal-blue chrysocolla accented with green malachite are a colorful and fine accent. Periphery wear is noted, but this remains a rich and highly representative example of this combination material from a recent find. Valued at $300 by the former dealer for high quality.
