Item Description

Here we have a classic example of the famous Manganites from the renowned locality at Ilfeld, Germany, the type locality for the species. These are not only the most iconic examples of Manganite around, but the locality is completely defunct, and good specimens are rarely offered on the market. These crystals are instantly recognizable with their unique prismatic, striated form and beautiful lustrous exteriors. This piece features dozens of fine quality, sharp, lustrous, jet-black, prismatic crystals of Manganite measuring up to 1.2 cm on massive Manganite matrix. The vast majority of the crystals are undamaged and the piece stands out as a fine example of this highly sought after material. Valued at $2,400. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#962). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
