Item Description

These are some of the most well-known Garnet specimens from any US locality. The distinctive color of these Andradites along with the semi metallic luster are a dead giveaway for their origin. Here we have a wonderful thumbnail sized piece from Stanley Butte featuring many sharp, well-formed, lustrous dodecahedra of Andradite measuring up to 6 mm. No matrix, and the crystals are undamaged on the display side. The largest crystal measures about 6 mm. I really like the three-dimensional form of the piece, and if you look closely, you can see a bit of "phantom" color zoning to the crystals where the exterior of the crystals is a darker color than the interior. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10243). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
