Item Description

At one point, Fergusonite was a valid species. It now exists as three separate species: Fergusonite-(Ce), Fergusonite-(Nd) and Fergusonite-(Y) respectively. This specimen has not been analyzed, so we don't know for sure which species it is, and one would possibly need microprobe analysis to determine its true identity. This thumbnail sized specimen features a cluster of prismatic brownish-black Fergusonites measuring up to 1.1 cm long free of matrix. These are hard to find on the market and certainly worth picking up if you collect rare earth pegmatite minerals. Only one crystal is contacted, and the rest of the piece is damage free. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1248). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
