Item Description

Neudorf Galenas are icons in the mineral world, and certainly highly sought after by collectors. This piece features many sharp, well-formed, silvery-black colored cuboctahedra of Galena measuring up to 1.1 cm on edge which are sitting on a layer of sugar / drusy Quartz that is coating Fluorite crystals on matrix. The lable refers to the Quartz as forming "casts" after the Flourite, but the Fluorite is still present, so it's simply a coating. Most of the Galena crystals are undamaged, but there are a few tiny imperfections here and there. The combo and the arrangement of the piece makes for a lovely miniature of this classic old time material. Valued at $500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8989). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
