Item Description

Tourmalines are beloved around the world, and even the black opaque Schorl Tourmalines are highly desirable on the market. Even though most people know Schorl as a species, there are not too many localities producing good quality specimens today. This piece is a wonderful and showy crystal group of fine quality, jet-black prismatic Schorl crystals with beautiful slender form and glistening luster on the prism faces. The terminations have a matte "stepped" appearance, with an almost velvety semi-fibrous appearance. The crystals are intergrown to create a fantastic, three-dimensional piece with excellent aesthetics. It's mostly complete, as nearly every termination is undamaged (a few crystals are even doubly-terminated), and the only real damage is on the underside. A nice piece to add to a Tourmaline collection, a suite of Namibian minerals or a tribue to crystal morphology. The largest Schorl measures 2.7 cm long. Priced in the inventory at $950. Ex Charlie Key collection. Charlie is arguably the most sucessful dealer of the second half of the 20th century, along with being the namesake for TWO mineral species (Keyite and Ludlockite).
