Item Description

This piece came with a label stating it was from the "Friedrich Mine" in "Niederhoevels, Westphalia". The only mine with the name "Friedrich" that I can find where Wulfenite is reported is the Friedrich-Christian Mine in the Black Forest. Now I have found a few localities in the Niederberg area, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany where Wulfenite is reported, so it might be a more likely locality. If anybody out there has some info as to where this piece might be from, please let us know. With that said the specimen is filled with sharp, lustrous, caramel-orange colored, prismatic crystals of Wulfenite measuring up to 4 mm on massive grey Galena matrix. The habit of the Wulfenites is not typical for Germany, and it reminds me more of Mexican Wulfenites. A cool old specimen for any collector of German minerals or worldwide Wulfenites. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4670). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
