Item Description

VERY RARE and excellent aquamarine and quartz from an unknown pegmatite in the Rossing Mountains Area. MINDAT does not list aquamarine for this area. A 4.0 cm gem, light blue aqua with a nifty modified pinacoidal termination dramatically rises up from the matrix plate of numerous terminated and unterminated aquas and oxide-tinted quartz crystals. The aqua has a satiny luster from the lightly frosted faces. Complete all-around. A contact lower on one side, where another crystal once lay, has no damage, per se. A clean repair to reattach the aqua at the base is revealed by LW UV light, which is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatites species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5410 and acquired from American Museum in 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Possibly a UNIQUE combination specimen for the locale. This very fine combination displays well from both sides without aid.
