Item Description

Three dimensional calcite crystal clusters of this outstanding sculptural quality are RARE from the famous White Pine Mine of Copper Country. The last copper mine to close in the Keweenaw (1995), it produced from the laminated Nonsuch Shale not the basalt flows or conglomerate beds of other Copper Country mines. Open space in shale beds for 3-dimensional crystal growth was rare. This artistic cluster of sharp, glassy, translucent oxide-tinted scalenohedrons is highlighted by the three more isolated crystals: the dramatic 4.0 cm doubly terminated crystal with a lightly bruised tip; the 4.3 cm doubly terminated crystal next to it with a contacted tip; and the sharp 3.7 cm adjacent scalenohedron. RARE and excellent White Pine Mine calcite from the Tom Wolfe Calcite Collection. Valued at $500-750 for quality and rarity. Try to find another!
