Item Description

Amity is a classic New York and United States locale. Collecting started in the early 1800s and spinels are a highly desirable species, with crystals to 300 pounds recovered! New specimens are seldom on the market today, as the area is being suburbanized (MINDAT). A 2.5 cm sharp, moderately lustrous, compound spinel octahedron is jauntily perched atop the blocky marble matrix nicely accented with smaller spinels and spinel crystal sections. The octo is complete all-around and essentially pristine. The gently contacted termination has negligible impact to the high quality of this piece. Formerly in the James B. Cone Collection. From an East Coast collection and comes with a faded and torn label with 1918 date. An excellent 100+ year old Amity spinel and a New York classic. Valued at $800.
