Item Description

A striking, OLD-TIME, tourmaline and smoky quartz from the famed Himalaya Mine. Two gemmy doubly terminated tourmalines are dramatically embedded on a gemmy, doubly terminated smoky quartz crystal. The pretty rubellite near the tip is 2.5 cm and has slightly different colored pyramidal and pinacoidal terminations. The unusual second tourmaline is 2.6 cm with a near colorless to very light blue gem tip to apple green to pink with a white overgrowth and a purple pinacoidal termination. What a color variety! Both tourmalines have a purple lower termination. The smoky is complete all-around and pristine. The lustrous crystal has water-clear and veiled interior sections and crystal faces are glass-clear to frosted. The lower termination has multiple striking tips. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6185 and acquired at the Pleasanton Federation Show in 1970. She got it from an old friend, a San Diego jeweler. An "old-time piece." Could be from the 1960s or much earlier. Value?? A unique looking old Himalaya combination.
