Item Description

Native antimony is much less common than native arsenic from the historic St. Andreasberg District. This rich miniature of solid antimony exhibits typical attributes for the locale - steplike cleavage and bright metallic luster. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4321 and acquired in the mid-1960s. Kay assembled a nice suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. The is piece undoubtedly dates to the 1800s, as the last mine closed in 1910. Antimony specimens of any type are very uncommon from here.
