Item Description

A showy and excellent OLD-TIME tourmaline specimen from this classic pegmatite, first studied in the 18th century (MINDAT). An attractive spray of light pink rubellite sections, to 6.5 cm, is accented with patches of tiny lepidolites on the massive quartz matrix. More tourmaline section on other sides are a bonus. Ex Kay Roberts Collection # 8164 and acquired from the Cisneros's in the Spring of 1977. A note on her label says the piece was found prior to World War I (1914) and was from a German collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
