Item Description

A rare and rich urban combination specimen from New York City! A sharp vein of hydromagnesite separates shimmering chatoyant radial sprays of snow-white artinite needles on the front. The artinite sprays cover one end and richly spill over onto the back side of the piece. Artinite and hydromagnesite, uncommon Mg-carbonates, are found along with other minerals as a low-temperature alteration product as veinlets or crusts in serpentinized ultrabasic rocks. This very rich and rare combination comes from an uncommon neighborhood locality on Staten Island.
