Item Description

A sculptural and excellent old-time combination specimen from the famous Joplin Field of the Tri-State District. Sharp, lustrous, jet-black, stepped-growth sphalerite crystals, to 2.5 cm, are aesthetically clustered on all sides of this 3-dimensional piece. The matrix includes scattered gemmy calcite crystals, saddle-shaped dolomite rhombs and accenting sliver-like chert shards. One side is covered with scintillating rubyjack sphalerite microcrystals, adding more pizzazz. Essentially pristine. One sphalerite has a contacted face, but there is no damage, per se. A very fine and classic 360-degree combination from the Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection.
