Item Description

The historic sulfide Herja Mine is noted for outstanding semseyite specimens and this is an exceptionally rich and excellent old-time combination specimen from the David Burgess Collection. Semseyite is an uncommon Pb-Sb sulfosalt. Radial sprays of bright metallic to tarnished blades totally cover the mounded matrix of granular sphalerite. The concave vuggy bottom of the piece is lined with scintillating, sharp tiny sphalerite crystals and a myriad of hard-to-see very tiny sharp glassy calcite scalenohedrons. Very rare old-time combination material collected in the 1920s, according to the label from respected rarities dealer Josef Vajdak (Pequa Minerals). Valued at $350, years ago, it is worth $500-700 today. Classic and very rich Herja semseyite.
