Item Description

Some of the finest cuprites in the Mineral Kingdom came from the famous 1970s finds at this extinct mine. This is a superb miniature with highly unusual crystal form. Most cuprites from here are textbook octahedrons, but this striking cutie is dominated by a super sharp, 3.0 cm flattened octahedron. Malachite has been removed from the crystals, exposing the lustrous, metallic, deep wine-red color. The fabulous cherry-red color of these gemmy cuprites really explodes in the backlit photo. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite has been named. Burgessite is a extremely rare cobalt hydrogen arsenate. Valued at $2500-3500. Onganja cuprites of this quality and rarity are SELDOM on the market.
