Item Description

Highly lustrous, jet-black goethite botryoids cover the sculptural undulating small cabinet on this showy old-time specimen from this ancient and extinct Fe, Pb, Cu mining district. There are more botryoids on the back. The last mine closed in 1965 (MINDAT). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7272 and acquired from John MacDonald in April, 1974. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Quality goethite specimens are very uncommon from this old district.
