Item Description

A surreal, dramatic and sculptural large two-sided combination plate from the famous Sweetwater Mine. The striking 'front' is peppered with fantastically colorful shrub-like aggregates of variably hued iridescent marcasite and pyrite crystals on the dolomite rhomb covered limestone matrix. The 'back' is visibly different, as scattered classic glassy light amber calcite scalenohedrons, to 3.8 cm, predominate with far fewer marcasite and pyrite "shrubs" and no dolomite rhombs. Interesting variably chemistry from side to side! An impressive and classic large combination plate collected in the 1980s from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection. It has multiple display possibilities! Valued at $700-900.
