Item Description

Classic, showy and rich old-time bournonite with accessories from this famous and ancient German iron mine, that closed in 1965. Bournonite is a highly desirable species from the Georg Mine. Sharp, lustrous, metallic, tapered crystals are festooned on the hefty sufide and quartz matrix. The crystals reach 2.0 cm and some of the larger crystals have the desirable cogwheel form. Scattered pretty iridescence on the bouronites adds color and character. A string of bright golden chalcopyrite crystals, scattered flattened siderite rhomb patches and fields of sparkly drusy quartz are fine accessories. A bit of periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this fine old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5557 and acquired from the Hamel's at the MSSC Show in 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Despite the new bournonites coming from China, these old European ones are still greatly prized! Choice old-time combination material. valued $1000
