Item Description

A RARE pseudomorph from the well-known large underground and open pit Pb-Ag-Zn-Cu mine. Bright blue azurite has replaced a sculptural diverging cluster of glauberite blades. MINDAT does not list glauberite, a Na-Ca sulfate found in salt deposits for the mine, but does list halite. Azurite specimens are rare from here, but do occur and have a similar form in the MINDAT photo gallery for the locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6658 and acquired from respected rare minerals dealers, the Cisneros's in May, 1972 with their label. Irregardless, this is a RARE and excellent AZURITE from this noted locale. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A must for the species or locality collector.
