Item Description

RARE and rich barite from an obscure Austrian locale. Three sides of the mounded sculptural matrix are festooned with glassy, colorless, tabular barite spearpoints. The striking larger stepped-growth clusters, to 1.7 cm, look like flocked Christmas trees! The whiter color is due to preferential coatings of magnesite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2582 and acquired from the Lindemann Collection in June, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A rare, rich and desirable older classic.
