Item Description

Bright reddish-orange, lustrous, translucent crocoite crystals are densely clustered jackstraw-style on this very rich, colorful and excellent small cabinent from Dundas. The prisms reach 2.6 cm and many terminations were contacted against the vug wall, which is certainly acceptable. The contacting reveals that, many of the crystals are hollow, adding pizzazz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2755 and acquired from the Shale's in the mid-1960s. Formerly in the Jess Abernathy Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). This older specimen with more robust thicker crystals is very different from the modern style of more fragile, elegant crystals from the currently working Red Lead Mine and the sculptural matrix is sturdy. Classic older Dundas crocoite.
