Item Description

Garnierite is not a valid species, but a designation for nickel and nickel-bearing magnesium silicates, e.g., Nepouite, Pimelite, Falcondoite, Willemseite, Pecoraite, Lizardite, Kerolite and Talc. The material is found in pockets and veins within weathered and serpentinized ultramafic rocks, and was originally reported in 1864 from New Caledonia. This piece is from Dobsina, Slovakia and is the the only specimen I can remember seeing from the locality. It features beautiful "nickel"-green colored spots of Garnierite on matrix. Rare and beautiful and hard to find on the market.
