Item Description

A RARE style, older rhodochrosite miniature from this famous Peru mine. Most rhodos from here are scalenohedrons, but here we have a rich field of lustrous, translucent, rose-pink rhombs, to 5 mm, with frosted faces aesthetically set on a bed of sparkly quartz points. OLD-TIME, as this piece from the Kay Robertson Collection # 10910 was acquired at the Tucson Show in 1986! This is when rhodos from here first started reached US markets. Major finds took place in the early to mid-1990s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
