Item Description

Pyrite is RARE from this famous Weardale fluorite mine, opened in the early 1970s and closed in 1999. Sparkly, brassy pyrite microcrystals preferentially cover numerous faces on the impressive cluster of gemmy, rich grape-purple interpenetrating fluorite cubes. The cubes, to 2.5 cm, are very aesthetically set atop the large mounded matrix of starkly contrasting quartz points. A few scattered tiny galena cuboctahedrons are a typical accessory. The specimen is essentially pristine, except for the acceptable periphery wear on this classic, very showy and rare 360-degree combination. Purple fluorescence. Ex Nagel-Bigmore and Art Soregaroli Collections.
