Item Description

A rarely seen example of Serpentinite Jade cat's eye from Afghanistan. I've seen this material referred to as "Satalite" but it's best to call it Serpentinite. Now it's labeled as Serpentinite Jade, but it's not Jade, it's actually a high-grade and almost pure form of green Serpentine from the a locality called Panjab, and was known for many centuries as 'sang-i-yashm', or in English as 'false jade'. This stone is one of only two cat's eye gems that I've seen of this material. The "eye" is strikingly sharp and beautiful, and the stone itself reminds me of Chrysoberyl cat's eyes that I've seen over the years. I had this stone cut from rough that I purchased myself, so I know it's geuine. A cool rarity for anybody who collects cat's eye, but especially if you are interested in unusual and hard to find stones.
