Item Description

A classic specimen of the well known "Chiastolite" - a variety of Andalusite - from Mong Hsu, Burma. From my experience, these are quite rare from this locality. They are essentially crystals of Andalusite containg cross-shaped inclusions of carbon, and like this piece are often sliced and polished to show the crystal form better. I don't know if I would call this a cabochon or a faceted stone because the top / table is somewhat rounded and polished, but the pavillion of the stone is faceted and unpolished. If you collect Burmese gems or if you've always wanted a piece of this attractive and relatively hard to find material, don't miss out on this one.
