Larimar (Pectolite)

Larimar is the trade name that is designated to the light blue, massive Pectolite from the Dominican Republic. The material is typically opaque, sometimes slightly translucent, but it's the gorgeous blue color that really draws the eye. The actual name "Larimar" is a combination of "Larissa" - was the name of the daughter of Dominican geologist, Miguel Mendez who originally named the material - and the word "Mar", which is the Spanish word for sea, as the material resembles the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. Here we have an attractive Larimar gem with a "Square Cabochon" cut and a beautiful swirling blue coloring. These stones are only found in one place in the world, and they are becoming increasingly more popular among collectors, jewelers and dealers for its durability, size and color.
