Item Description

Smithsonite occurs in a wide array of colors from various world localities, but I think most people would agree that the finest blue Smithsonites are found at the Kelly Mine in New Mexico. This stone was cut from a broken piece of Smithsonite that came out of an old collection. What makes it significant is that it's actually FACETED and not a cabochon like the vast majority of Smithsonite on the market. I've only had a few faceted Kelly Mine gems in the past, and they always sell immediately due to the fact that even smaller stones have good color. Keep in mind that when it comes to U.S. gems, they're always high in demand, and it doesn't matter if it's Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine, Benitoite from California, Hiddenite from North Carolina, Sapphires from Montana, etc., people are buying material from the United States at an excelerated rate. This gem has a beautiful "Round Brillaint" with a lovely soft blue color and excellent clarity for the material. It's a good sized stone, and the color is best seen under flourescent lighting I've found. If you collect U.S. gems or just worldwide Smithsonites, this is a great chance to pick up an attractive stone for a good price.
