Gypsum (cat's eye)

It's difficult to find gemstones of Gypsum due to the incredibly soft nature of the material along with the perfect cleavage. Faceted stones are quite rare, and cabochons are not terribly easy to polish. These stones should be appreciated for the difficulty involved to create them. Any good rare gem collection needs to have a Gypsum, especially if it has a little something extra to bring to the table like this stone. This would be a worthwhile "Round Cabochon" cut gem of white silky Gypsum, but the icing on the cake is that it shows a sharp and well-defined "cat's eye" effect when rotated in the light! The stone comes to us from Spain, where I've seen several good faceted gems over the years. If you collect rare gems or cat's eye gems, don't miss out on this one.
