Item Description

Good mineral specimens were uncommon from the Christian-Levin coal mine, which closed in 1958. Not surprisingly, surviving pieces of this quality are even more scarce. The large, 2.7 cm Galena that dominates this small cab perfectly shows the interpenetrating habit that, along with undulating faces, is the distinctive form for here. There are numerous small Galenas on the drusy matrix, as well as micro Cotunnite, Anglesite, and Phosgenite. Not only is this a definitive locality piece that was good enough to be in the W. Schmidt and Hermann Kraft collections previously, it is a straight-up fine Galena. Kay acquired this choice Galena in 1977, and it was #8147 in her collection.
