Garnet with Calcite (fl) and Smoky Quartz

Item Description

Super-lustrous black Garnets highlight this complex small cab from the Saarbrucken area in Germany. The vein of Garnets winds it way though the center, with the largest Garnet being 1.2 cm across. The luster is excellent, color a deep black, and the habit classic. The little bit of edgewear on one corner of the largest crystal is on such a fine scale that it really doesn't detract. The Calcite in the matrix has a remarkable, deep red fluorescence, and there are Smoky Quartz crystals, as well. This is an attractive, and highly unsusual, combination specimen from this coal-mining region. #3215 in Kay's collection.
