Item Description

Hydromagnesite is an unusual and uncommon hydrated carbonate, and can be quite attractive. Found as a low-temperature hydrothermal mineral, this fine small cab consists of crystal aggregates that are snow-white to colorless, feathery, and hair-like. Aesthetic and delicate, these occur in veinlets within serpentine and altered, magnesium-rich igneous rocks. The Red Mountain area in Santa Clara County contains this uncommon California locality for Hydromagnesite. So uncommon, in fact, that the actual locality was never given a name beyond "Unnamed Hydromagenesite Occurrence". Acquired in 1984 from Lidstrom's, this was #10,456 in Kay's collection.
