Item Description

Super aesthetic, this classic Wavellite highlights one of the most eye-catching characteristics of the species - the great radial growth. The majority of the crystals are about 1.2 cm across, which is impressively large, and the luster is superb. There are even numerous small (up to about 3 mm), complete balls of Wavellite, which add both visual and mineralogical interest. Interestingly, the matrix is an ultra-fine sandstone rather than the typical black slate that Wavellite is found on in specimens from Frankenberg. Trenice/Chemnitz could sound similar and thus confused when the specimen was acquired in ol dtimes pre-MINDAT and internet, when it was easier to check on such things (so, we have noted this and changed the label to Czech based on expert advice). This appealing cabinet specimen was #6252 in Kay's collection, and was acquired back in 1970 from Lidstrom's.
