Item Description

Anapaite with Baryte is a scarce combination from the famous deposits of the Kerch Peninsula, Crimea, Ukraine. A rare calcium phosphate, the Anapaite crystals in this small cab are mm-size, grass-green, lustrous, and many among the thousands are doubly-terminated. Much of the calcium and phosphorus needed for the Anapaite is derived from shell material contained in the Limonite matrix at Kertch. These shells are one of the keynote features of the specimens from here. The Anapaite complete coats this narrow pocket, and growing on the Anapaite are balls and one fan of tan, fluorescent Baryte. The fan reaches 2 cm across and all the Barytes have radial growth. #9770 in Kay's collection, this was formally in the Mineral Museum in Moscow. Kay was fortunate to get this back in 1982, as striking combinations like this are now very hard to obtain with the specimens mined out and the mine closed. RARE in such richness. valued $500
